A series of events is taking place in Mayo throughout May to celebrate creativity and ageing for Bealtaine 2015.

Ballina is getting ready to host the biggest fright fest in the west with the Samhain Abhainn seven-day celebration of all things Halloween kicking off on Saturday.

Throughout the month of May, Áras Inis Gluaire will be hosting events to mark the national annual Bealtaine festival. The festival kicks off on Wednesday May 8 at 3pm when they will open their art in the afternoon showcase. This is a collection of paintings by a group of men who have been painting in the centre every Monday afternoon. Go along and see these fantastic pieces. Teas and coffees will be provided and Micheal S Togher will lead a singsong afterwards. Also on May 8, an exhibition by Amanda Jane Graham will open entitled A Tribute to the Irish Community, Montana. This fascinating exhibition will include a walk around talk by the artist about her work which has an interesting historical element.

The team behind Festival of the Fires are keeping the flame burning this May bank holiday weekend when they host a spectacular two-day Gathering at Uisneach at the Uisneach Inn, located at the foothill of the Hill of Uisneach in Killare, Co Westmeath.

To the disappointment of its many fans, the popular Festival of the Fires has been cancelled for this year to allow the site at the Hill of Uisneach to recover.

In order to raise funds for a local suicide prevention initiative, Knock Counselling Centre will host a Scottish Burns Supper at Café le Chéile, Knock Shrine on Friday January 18.
